Jessica Penticoff of Big Horn Photography won the first Official Photography Contest sponsored by Digital Photography Department. After she won we did an interview with her. What kind of photography are you interested in? I am interested in all kinds of photography, but Wildlife/Nature is my personal favorite.
Where did you shoot the shot that won the Photography Contest? The photo was taken at Circle Park in the Big Horn Mountains above Buffalo WY
What photography and video gear do you like to use? I am a plain Jane girl, and usually just use my Canon EOS 7D with my 28-135mm IS zoom lens and
EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
What is the most difficult part about capturing your images? I’d have to say, having the patience to sit and wait for the perfect shots. I’m always looking for the next potential shot, and sometimes I just have to remember to stop, breathe and enjoy the moment that is right in front of me.
Why do you do photography? I’ve always had a passion for photography, mostly because I feel like I can express myself thru my photos. But also because I love capturing that moment in time, forever.
How did you get into photography? Besides always having a fascination with photography, I was always the one at all the family functions that people relied on to take the photos, & over the years I decided to get serious about it, and here I am today!
What is one piece of advice would you give other photographers who are dreaming about making photography like you make? Have Faith in yourself, get out there and spread your wings & just do it. If you have never had the chance to take photography classes, (like me) then take it upon yourself to learn all you can over the internet, books or wherever you can find information that will help you. It’s not necessary to have the best equipment that’s out there. Trial and error is one of the best teachers.
