I read, buy, checkout, find, and borrow many different books. Recently I got one as a gift and I it is really great. It is kind of hard to get your hands on, but well worth it. It is titled Key West in Black and White by Tom Corcoran.
I read, buy, checkout, find, and borrow many different books. Recently I got one as a gift and I it is really great. It is kind of hard to get your hands on, but well worth it. It is titled Key West in Black and White by Tom Corcoran. This is unlike many photography collections you usually see. Tom has lived in Key West Florida for years. Throughout those years he has been riding his bicycle all over and taking pictures. There are pictures dating back to the 1970’s. For some that is not too far gone however for Key West the amount of change since then has been substantial. This is what makes this historical documentation interesting to me. Also Tom Corcoran is a very witty guy keeping you reading and dissecting each picture with a description and tale for each shot. Key West is part of American history. When I was looking through this book I could not help but remember that animation in the movie An Inconvenient Truth, where the sea level rises and takes about 90% of Florida. I thought to myself, if that were to happen many people would be able to still get a feel for Key West thanks to Tom Corcoran.
On a lighter note Tom obviously rides his bike around the island taking pictures of the many historical buildings and places. He talks about what each place was, has been and is now. He says he never wanted to be a historian but I cannot remember the last time I had such an interesting history lesson.
Thanks Tom for having the motivation to tirelessly photograph for all these years.
You might be able to get this book from amazon. I will put the link at the bottom….Good Luck.
