This is a shot I took with the Nikon 12-24mm f/4G ED IF Autofocus DX Nikkor Zoom Lens

the picture was taken with my Nikon D80. I absolutely love this lens.  For everyday wide angle shots this is the lens you want to, if you own a Nikon DX camera.  As you can see this is a very wide shot with very little distortion.  This was shot at about 14mm.  After using the lens I determined that the lens performs best at around 15mm.  I did see that you do get a little “barreling”  if you go all the way to 12mm however it is very minimal and can be corrected in photoshop if needed.  Anyone looking to buy a wide angle lens and not wanting to pay $1700 for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens, should look into the 12-24mm.  On amazon right now you can get it for around $650 used or $900 New.  If you want the best and you have the cash then buy the 14-24mm f/2.8 this is an amazing lens but be prepared it is huge!

What are your favorite wide angle lenses?  What one essential wide angle lens should every photographer have in their bag?
